Description
Stunning vintage Jan Leslie Custom Design black velvet hat, originally retailed by Battelstein’s of Houston. A fabulous mid-century design featuring rich black velvet, sculptural toque/beret styling, braided black cord trim and dramatic tassel detailing at the back.
The interior bears the Jan Leslie Custom Design label along with the original Battelstein’s Houston retailer label. The crown is also stamped “Body Made in Italy” with a partially legible maker’s name.
A beautifully constructed vintage hat with a wonderfully sophisticated silhouette — equally striking worn with modern fashion or as part of a vintage collection.
Approximate measurements:
• 10" across from outer rim to rim
• 7.5" across interior opening
• Please compare measurements with a hat that fits comfortably, as vintage hat sizing can vary.
Condition: Good vintage condition with light age-related wear consistent with a piece of this era. Please review photos closely for condition and details.
Estimated era: Late 1950s–1960s.
The Battelstein’s provenance is especially appealing for collectors of Texas and Houston fashion history.
